Robert Maudsley

Robert Maudsley (born in 1953) was dealt with many bad cards throughout his life. He was placed into an orphanage in his early years, before being retrieved by his parents at the age of 8, and was subjected to physical abuse until he was removed by social services. This was not the end of his ordeal, as he went on to be a sex worker in his teenage years, having to support his drug addiction and make a living to sustain his daily needs. Thereafter, he was seemingly given an opportunity by one of his clients (John Farrell), to have a slightly more comfortable life but that all came to an end when John Farrell turned out to be a consumer of child pornography and revealed that he sexually abused children.

John Farrell eventually became Robert’s first victim (for Robert was overwhelmed by his traumatic childhood memories) and he went on to be a serial killer when in prison. He killed 4 victims in total and was dubbed the “brain eating” serial killer by the media, and subsequently sentenced to solitary confinement for the next few decades.

Why do people empathise with Robert Maudsley?
