When you see your loved ones being abused, would you take things into your own hands? Even murder?

Baltimore Sun

Cynthia Cdebaca was 63 years old when she shot and killed her son-in-law on 11 February 2014, coincidentally her birthday as well. Before we jump into the case, here is a brief background. Cynthia was staying with her daughter (Laura Salinas) and her son-in-law (Geoward Estaquio) and their two children. In 2001, Cynthia suffered from a stroke and moved in with Laura’s family so that Laura can keep an eye on her and help out as and when.

From the start, it was clear that Cynthia and Geoward did not get along at all. Cynthia was a chronic smoker and will often smoke cigarettes at home and Geoward did not like this. He did not want her smoking around his children (for good reason) and will often hose her down with water whenever he see her smoke in the yard. Other than lifestyle differences, Cynthia often saw Geoward and Laura arguing, and claimed that he physically and verbally abused her and their kids. This was later backed up by Laura, stating that he will spray water at them when things go wrong and were extremely strict with his kids, employing a military style to discipline his children (Geoward was from a military background).
